Fine wrinkles and smile lines that appear on the face and forehead are a common sign of aging. It doesn’t mean we’re getting old, but it does mean that the facial skin is no longer full of collagen and that it is becoming thinner. BOTOX® isn’t an actual skin treatment, but it is a very effective means for correcting the visual appearance of wrinkles.
BOTOX® is actually a type of muscle relaxing agent. When the solution is injected into the upper-level facial muscles, it affects the transmitting ability of the nerves that cause these muscles to contract. The result is more wrinkle-free skin because the muscles are relaxed.
About Dynamic Wrinkles
These are the lines and wrinkles that form when we make certain facial expressions. If we smile or frown, purse our lips or narrow our eyebrows, tiny wrinkles become visible. If the muscles that control these facial movements cannot fully contract, the skin remains smooth, and the smile lines and crow’s feet don’t become visible.
Consultation and Treatment
We always want to consult with the client before administering BOTOX®. We want to examine the face closely so that we can determine the proper injection sites as well as the amount of the solution to use.
If we determine that BOTOX® is the suitable treatment, we can move forward with planning a treatment session. During the treatment, the solution is skillfully injected into the treatment area. There is virtually no downtime involved, so most people can return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment session.
Ongoing Cosmetic Treatment with BOTOX®
Each subsequent treatment requires the use of less and less of the BOTOX® fluid because the muscles are slowly becoming trained to stay relaxed. Clients won’t notice any numbing effect on the face, and smiling and frowning is just as easy as before. However, the dynamic wrinkles aren’t apparent, and the effect is subtle yet dramatic. These treatments can be performed multiple times each year in the comfort of our office for ongoing benefits.
